Writing is something that played a huge role in my life. When times were down, writing was something I went to, the expression of emotions and feelings written down is 100 percent better than holding it in and keeping it to myself. That is why it was important to me. In general, writing is very important, spanning from the written works of history to the small notes one might write to their friends and family. It is also the best way for people to express their thoughts and feelings to others.
Now to talk about what happened in class this semester, I learned a lot in these past months and learned a lot from my peers as well. I realized how important it was to brainstorm and gather all your ideas before you start writing. I loved peer-reviews because it showed what your classmate’s thoughts were as well. The professor’s comments, as well as my peers, made me a better writer as of today. I learned about the many different writing strategies there were and how to use them. Also, these past essays helped me understand what MFC is and how it can benefit human health. The many different writing strategies helped me see many different viewpoints about climate change and what it was. This also helped me write my psychology papers as I had to see the topic from somebody else’s viewpoint and write about it. For example, I had to write about the different parts of the brain and what function each part was in charge of. I read the book and from the author’s words, I formulated a paper clearly explaining what each part was responsible for. Another class was the Jewish Studies paper I had to do, this paper was totally about writing it using somebody else’s viewpoint on the topic, I had to find 3 different sources and compare what each of them said about the same topic. This was easy to do because I had experience with it from the English class.
The assignments given in class ranged from what we thought about the topic to the last ones being about what other people thought about the topic. These assignments helped the students understand that it is also very important to hear and read what other people have to say about the topic as well and not only stick to what we think about it. If one were to only stick to what they thought about the topic, it would be considered bias and that is not credible information. There were many assignments that were interesting.
I came in this class expecting to be the same old English classes I have always been in, but the way this class, went that changed my mind. Surprisingly, I actually learned new things about writing and how to perfect it as a whole. The different writing strategies are needed in order to get your ideas down and to distinguish between your ideas and other people’s ideas. Being able to see what other people’s viewpoints are on certain topics really can change your point of view as well. One should not only see things from one perspective but from other people’s as well. This shows that you are more valid and your ideas are concrete because other people had their viewpoints on it.
This class helped me understand a lot about writing and what it is, what it has to offer to the people reading it. Writing is something that is very important and is something the world needs even if one might not think that. If there was no writing, I literally would not be saying this sentence right now. It plays a SALIENT role in human life. This all has helped me understand the development of the theory of writing.
